Article:
If you read 'Jungle Gold' (first edition), the story about the locomotives in the jungle and the gold company on the Marowijne as told by Dad Pedrick you might not be able to find the Araguaya creek. The name will be a mystery as he is talking about the Pakira Creek.Dad Pedrick told his story some 30 years after he left Suriname and he vaguely remembered the name Aroewarwa creek which he corrupted into Araguaya Creek. This 'confusion' is explained also in a later annotated edition of Jungle Gold and the Suralco Magazine, 1984, vol 16, Nr1.
See previous postings about the locomotive in the jungle and [Nature] Jungle Life (1899-1901), posted 29 April 97 etc.
Dad Pedrick narrates about his boat engineer Denworth who was 25 years old and born in NY city . He was also a bounty hunter. However, Denworth is actually Howard M. Danforth who died at age 23 and his tomb stone and grave are in Albina, Suriname.
Howard A. (Dad) Pedrick was the great grand son of Isaac Pedrick who inherited a deed for 5000 acres of land in South New Jersey. The town Pedricktown was named for his family.
Jungle Gold the story of Dad Pedrick is recommended reading and it is probably easier to get than the Suralco reprints.
